What Does a Protective Order Do?
Our Denton, Collin, and Tarrant County domestic violence attorneys can help you navigate the legal processes required to file a protective order against your abuser so that you can feel safe at home again.
Also known as a "restraining order," a protective order may include various provisions, such as:
- No Contact Provision – Restricting the abuser from calling, e-mailing, texting, stalking, attacking, and disturbing the victim
- Stay Away Provision – Ordering the perpetrator to remain a specific number of yards or feet away from the victim, their home, school, job, and car, as well as a child’s home and school
- Move Out Provision – Forcing the abuser to move out of a home shared by the person they abused
- Peaceful Contact Provision – Allowing the perpetrator to amicably communicate with the person they abused on a limited basis, such as child care and visitation
- Counseling Provision – Ordering the abuser to attend counseling
- Firearms Provision – Ordering the abuser to surrender any guns they have in possession and prohibiting them from buying a firearm
Violation of a protective order can result in jail time and a fine. If the violation derived from a violent incident, the perpetrator can also be prosecuted for a misdemeanor or felony, along with jail time of up to two years.

Mr. Pax aka TJ was awesome! He was very professional, kind and understanding to my situation. From start to finish I felt like he was going to take care of me, and he did. Throughout the entire process I was kept informed and properly prepared for trial! If I ever have to go through any sort of family court again, I will only go with TJ!!- David

I’m not sure what your family law needs are, but I am sure that Coker, Robb & Cannon can help you. And if you’re looking for a divorce lawyer that won’t add to the stress and anxiety of the situation, then definitely go with Shelby Hart, I couldn’t be more grateful for how he helped me.
I reached out online, and they got back to me the same day. I think it was Rachel that reached out and interviewed me and after discussing my situation she paired me with Shelby, who was also a new parent, and that was amazing! I don’t know if this is standard practice, but it should be. It should also be mentioned that Rachel worked with me throughout the process: on my case as a paralegal, to help me schedule time and figure out documents, and she was incredibly kind, patient and thoughtful in every interaction.
Shelby was invaluable, in that he not only made me feel less stressed out about getting divorced, he also gave me advice on what the different outcomes would be depending on the path I chose. He helped me negotiate a decree that would not only be in the best interest of my child and myself, but one that would stand up in court. His advice kept me grounded, and he tailored his approach to my now ex-husband perfectly. That may not seem important on the surface, but when you are living with the person you are divorcing, it makes a huge difference in your day-to-day life and interactions with that person.
I was fully divorced within 3 months of contacting Coker, Rob & Cannon, and I plan on using them for my will and any other family law needs I may have in the future. Shelby, sincerely, I appreciate everything you did and cannot thank you enough.

I worked with Malorie Amalia Crosley on writing up a pre-nuptial agreement, and she was swift and put into writing everything I needed to be done. I appreciated the consultation and the help she provided me when I needed it. I would recommend her as a lawyer as she did everything I needed to be done promptly for a reasonable cost.- Leroy

Having Malorie by my side gave me the confidence and assurance I desperately needed during the most difficult and chaotic time in my life. She, and her team, were always available to thoroughly answer my constant questions, and in language I could understand. They always made me felt “seen” during the numerous times situations turned emotional, while at the same time, reassured by their calming expertise on a path forward. Time after time, that expertise was challenged, and without fail, was found to be correct. They proved to me that I could trust them to always tell me the correct, and up-to-date information on matters they are experts in, and just as importantly, when to seek different counsel on matters they are not. I truly cannot express how much I appreciate all Malorie and her team did for me. So, if you find yourself in a situation where you need someone to be your champion, please call them and see for yourself. I am so glad I did.- Russ
